COLUMBIA - Roger D. Swain, 65, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, after nearly a year of health challenges. A native and resident of Columbia, South Carolina, he was born on October 6, 1951. The son of the late Lewel Welton and Moultrie Caston Swain, he was a 1969 graduate of Dreher High School, and a 1975 graduate of The University of South Carolina. He was employed in the banking and finance industry as an internal examiner and financial consultant for some 37 years, the last 10 years as president and chief executive officer of his own independent consulting firm. In addition to financial and real estate investing, Mr. Swain had a strong interest in art, history, and architecture, maintaining residences in Charleston, South Carolina, Portland, Oregon, and Asheville, North Carolina, as well as traveling extensively throughout the country.
He is survived by a daughter, Mary Ellen Swain Bonneval (Travis), and four sons, Charles Marion Swain, Sr. (Traci), Robert Francis Swain (Leslie), Roger Edward Swain (Laura), all of Columbia, and John Michael Swain (Kelly) of Simpsonville. He was a devoted and loving father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed, especially by his 10 grandchildren, of whom he was very proud: Caroline, Mac, Henry, Edward, Helen, Bailey Marie, Eva, Elizabeth, Juliet, and Pressley. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery in Columbia, following a private family service.
