Born July 1st 1961 in Ipswich, Suffolk, England, Patrick spent much of his youth in several parts of Europe and the United States while his father, Colonel John Patrick O’Gorman, was serving in the United States Air Force. He grew a love for sports, in particular rugby, football, and competitive swimming, and often exhibited a penchant for innocent shenanigans. At Cardinal Newman High School, Patrick took great pride in being a member of the football team and made many life-long connections, including meeting his high-school sweetheart and future wife of 39 years, Paula. He later successfully pursued a culinary arts degree in St. Louis and maintained a career within the hospitality and restaurant industry where he used his natural charm and friendliness to make people feel at home.
In his free time, Patrick immersed himself in historical films and books, and he enjoyed hunting, experimenting in culinary adventures, tending to his Carolina Reapers, and, most of all, spending quality time with his grandson Benjamin.
He fiercely loved his family and never met a stranger.
Those left to cherish his memory include his spouse, Paula O’Gorman, his children, Kaitlyn and Philip O’Gorman, his grandchild, Benjamin O’Gorman, his beloved mother, Mary Genevieve O’Gorman, and his siblings, Kathleen (Scotty) Oberschmidt, Colleen (Dan Hogan) O’Gorman, Maureen (Gary Wiegert) O’Gorman, Sean (Sheri) O’Gorman, Noreen O’Gorman, Michael (Phyllis) O’Gorman, and his Australian Shepherd Cooper. He is predeceased by his sister, Eileen O’Gorman, his beloved father, Colonel John Patrick O’Gorman, and his labs Amber and Bonnie.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 20th from 6-8pm at Dunbar Funeral Home (3926 Devine Street, Columbia, SC). A Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (3600 Devine Street, Columbia, SC) on Wednesday, June 21st at 11am with burial services to follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
