Mrs. Carroll entered eternal rest Saturday, July 23, 2022. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Julian David Chandler and Glyn Kolb Miller. As a small child, she lived with her grandmother in Sumter while her mother travelled to Columbia to assemble guns for World War II. She enjoyed living in France in her early 20’s. She later worked for Post Engineers on Fort Jackson where she met and married U.S. Army Sergeant, Chet. They spent 54 happy years together.
Known as Mom, Nana, Aunt Pat, and Shug, Patsy’s true joy was her family. She raised her younger sister and brother and four daughters while taking care of her father-in-law. She was also “Nana” and gave loving care to her six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In her younger years, Patsy enjoyed walking to the movies, USO dances, and shag dancing. Her hobbies included painting flowers and sketching the faces of her grandchildren. She enjoyed swimming and summer beach trips with her family.
Patsy was of the Baptist faith and watched First Baptist Church services every Sunday. She read her Bible daily and shared God’s light with unconditional love for others. We will keep her love in our hearts, always remembering her words, “I love you with all my heart.”
Surviving are her children, Glynda Carroll, Liz Amos (Ken), Cissy Farrar (Al), all of Columbia, Sylvia Langford (Scott) of Newnan, Ga.; siblings, Millie Miller of Columbia; grandchildren, Brittany Dales (Chris), Jessica Amos, Jeremy Farrar, Cameron Farrar, all of Columbia, Ian Langford of Fairhope, Ala., Stephanie Langford of Newnan, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Hazel, Emma and Jackson Dales of Columbia.
She was predeceased by her husband, Chesley “Chet” Erving Carroll and brothers, James Miller and Bobby Chandler, both of Columbia.
