COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Ouida Blanche Ott (90) will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 22th, 2025, at Kathwood Baptist Church, with burial in Carolina Memorial Gardens in North Charleston, SC. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
Ms. Ott died on Wednesday, February 12th, 2025. Born in Augusta, GA, she was the second of three daughters to the late Jeff David Ott and Frieda Stacer Ott. In her later years, Ouida enjoyed reliving memories of her childhood spent with her parents and sisters living in Cameron and Branchville, SC, and later in North Charleston, SC, where she graduated from Chicora High School. Ouida was a graduate of Mars Hill College and Carson Newman College, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in English. She later received her Master’s degree from Vanderbilt University. Using her hard-earned education, she taught English and History at Chicora and Garrett High Schools in North Charleston, SC, Rock Hill and Northwestern High Schools in Rock Hill, SC, and Lower Richland High School in Columbia, SC, where she later retired.
Ouida was an active member of two teaching sororities, Alpha Delta Kappa (Alpha chapter), and Delta Kappa Gamma (Beta Beta chapter). During her adult life, she spent time as a docent at the South Carolina State Museum giving tours to school groups, an Avon representative in her community, a member of her garden club and Galaxy subdivision HOA, and a past member of Midlands Antique Study Club. She enjoyed watching many shows and plays at Town Theater in downtown Columbia, where she volunteered as an usher. Ouida was a member of Kathwood Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, and where she often volunteered in the church office, and with the children’s music programs. She was a devoted dog and cat lover, and liked to spend time researching family history.
She is survived by her sister, Stacer Ott McGee of Clayton, NC, three nieces, two nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great grand nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Geraldine Ott Harrelson.
The family wishes to thank the medical staff at Lexington Medical Center, Medical Services of America (MSA) Hospice for their compassionate care, as well as her caregivers at Mill Creek Manor Senior Living where she spent her last years.
