Born on January 9, 1935 in Serbia, he was the son of the late Zivan and Mileva Krasojevic Marinkovic. In Serbia, he graduated medical school from the University of Belgrade and served one year in their military. After immigrating to the United States, he furthered his education in Philadelphia at Thomas Jefferson University and Temple University. Dr. Marinkovic specialized in Hematology and Oncology. From 1971 to 1989 he worked at Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center heading the Hematology Oncology Department. He later worked at Bryan Dorn Veterans Hospital in Columbia, SC until he retired. While in this position he was a clinical professor for the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. Dr. Marinkovic was board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Oncology. He was also a fellow of the American College of Physicians.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Janice Gabrick Marinkovic; son, Alexander Marinkovic of Columbia, SC; daughter, Dr. Michele Jacobs and her husband, Dr. Jeffrey Jacobs of Spokane, Washington; daughter, Natalie Ardnt of New Mexico; and grandchildren, Brianna Parnell, Kyle Parnell, Edward Brewer, Bella Ardnt, and Ben Ardnt.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters Milena Marinkovic and Helga (Marinkovic) Jurczenko.
