Melissa Ann Johnson, formally Melissa Ann Brown, age 45, unexpectedly passed away Friday November 8th, 2024. Born June 30th, 1979, Melissa was a resident of northeast Columbia SC, Erie, P.A, Syracuse, NY and Beaufort, SC. She worked as a vet tech, home healthcare nurse, and co-owner of her and her husband, Chad’s, locksmith company, Lady’s Island Locksmith.
Known affectionately as "Meme," Melissa was celebrated for her radiant smile and outgoing nature. She was born and raised in the north but held a special place in her heart for the south, where she felt a profound connection with the ocean and its creatures, especially dolphins. Melissa's spirit and enthusiasm were infectious, and her love for her family was boundless. She cherished her role as a mother and grandmother more than anything, finding immense joy in the company of her three children and two grandchildren.
Melissa is survived by her loving husband, Chad Johnson; her sons, John and Joseph Holt; her daughter, Makayla Johnson; her grandchildren, Jeremiah and Aubrey Jane Turbyfill; and her two sisters, Chrissy & Rachel. She was preceded in death by her mother, Gloria Gladwell, and her father, Richard Brown.
Throughout her life, Melissa found happiness in simple pleasures. She adored being a grandmother, loved spending time at the beach, and had a deep affection for animals. Her compassionate nature extended beyond her family; she was always eager to lend a hand and help others in need.
A service to celebrate Melissa's life will be held at Elmwood Funeral Home, 501 Elmwood Ave, Columbia SC 29201, on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 2:00 PM. Viewing at 1:00 PM for family.
Melissa's legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will forever be cherished by those she leaves behind.
