Born in Columbia, Mary completed Ursuline High School and was vice-president and secretary of the Joe Virgeson Lumber Company, Inc. and The Commission for the Blind before retiring in 1987. After retirement, she volunteered at Providence Hospital for over 20 years. Mary was an initial member of Good Shepherd Church in Columbia and was a member of Parklane Recreation Commission and St. Joseph Bridge Club.
She is survived by her sons, Christopher M. Sox (Cathy, deceased), Gregory M. Sox (Carole); grandchildren, Kayla Khristine, Mary Mildred and Lennae Catherine; sisters-in-law, Margaret W. Sox (Harold, deceased), Jane Sox (Kenneth, deceased), Betty Rickard (Alvin, deceased); special nieces, Mary Lynn Sox and Carolyn Sox Reed (Wayne); as well as numerous other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Curtis M. Sox; sister, Lenna (Frank) Parker; and brothers, Charles W. DeMates and Joseph DeMates.
A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, with burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Thanks to Dr. Bradley Word and his office staff for their support and caring over the years. The family would also like to thank the nurses and doctors at Prisma Baptist Hospital for their caring service over the last month. They are true heroes.
