COLUMBIA - Mrs. Margie Ray Laney Moore died peacefully at Palmetto Richland on Thursday, February 4, 2016. During her two day stay in the hospital she was constantly surrounded by family and blanketed in love. She was born February 18, 1928 in Pageland, SC, to the late Bruce Leroy Laney and Etta Mae McManus Laney. After graduating from Pageland High School, she began her career with Bell South Telephone Company retiring in 1984. She lived a full and active life up until her hospitalization on January 7, 2016. Margie met with her dear friends from Southern Bell quarterly for a retiree luncheon. She was an avid bowler until just a couple of year ago. She was an active member of her Sunday school class, New Beginnings, at Park Street Baptist Church in Columbia. Margie had a standing hair appointment every Thursday with her hairdresser, Sue Gahm and all who knew Margie knew not to plan anything for Thursday morning. Margie loved her family beyond words and was proud of each and every one of them, never missing a family reunion on either the Laney or McManus side of her family. Margie was predeceased by her husband, Jean Heyward Moore; her parents, Bruce Leroy and Etta Mae Laney; her brothers, John Bruce, and Amon Leroy Laney; her sisters, Virginia Ruby Laney Guice and Jerry Ann Laney. Margie is survived by her daughters-in-love, Susan Wight and Jeanie Yelton; her granddaughters, Catherine and Megan Yelton; great grandsons, Aiden Jean Yelton and one to be born in April; her brother, Billy Alexander Laney; her sisters, Georgia Mae Laney Leuth, Ella Dean Laney Matney and Sylvia Wayne Laney Rock; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Moore and Sarah Laney. Margie was a second “mother” to 19 nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Mrs. Moore will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at Park Street Baptist Church, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building or Mission Fund at Park Street Baptist Church, 2204 Park Street, Columbia, SC 29201 or a charity of your choice.
