COLUMBIA - Memorial service for Margaret Ellen Harrelson, 65, of Columbia and Hilton Head Island SC, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2015, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service. Margaret Harrelson passed into the Lord’s hands Tuesday, June 16, 2015. She passed away peacefully with her beloved boys, Chris and Jimmy Dorsey, by her side. Born on November 9, 1949 in Miami Beach, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Vera Octavia and Robert A. Harrelson. She was born a beautiful, bouncy baby and won the title of "The Most Beautiful Baby" in Miami Beach in 1949. Margaret grew up in downtown Columbia attending AC Moore Elementary School, Hand Jr. High School and Dreher High School and enjoyed camping in Montreat, NC at the Billy Graham Camp as a young girl. Margaret’s first job was at The USC Library. During her employment there she met and married James Edward Dorsey III of Columbia and became the proud mother of their two boys. She was later employed as an apartment manager and a real estate agent in the Columbia area. Margaret lived an extraordinary and happy life traveling from the Pacific Coast to the East Coast and everywhere in between. She loved the beach and settled in Hilton Head Island where she enjoyed long walks on the beach and swimming in the ocean. Margaret loved to attend all the different churches throughout her travels. After many years with her two boys, Margaret became an avid sports fan and didn’t miss a game on television and especially loved her Gamecocks! Margaret’s beauty, dynamic personality and incredible since of humor will be greatly missed. Her courage, positive attitude and will to live will never be forgotten among her family or anyone that ever met her. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother (Archie) Robert Harrelson. Surviving are her sisters, Susan Weir(Bill) of Newport Beach, California, and Elizabeth Mead (“Rusty” Frank III) of Hilton Head; sons, Chris Dorsey (April) and Jimmy Dorsey, both of Columbia; grandchildren Grant and Cannon Dorsey; former husband, James E. Dorsey, III; nephews, Tom Owens, Ryan, Austin and Cartier Weir, and Robert and Rick Gardiner. The family wishes to express gratitude to all those that appreciated, supported and kept in touch with Margaret throughout her life and especially a big thanks to the incredible staff at Country Woods Nursing Center in Hopkins SC.
