COLUMBIA - A Memorial service for Mamie Ford Coleman, 94, will be held at 12:00 noon Monday, February 16, 2015, at Shandon United Methodist Church, with Dr. Michael Guffee officiating. A reception for friends and family will be held following the service in Wesley Hall. The family will receive friends from 5 until 6:30 p.m. Sunday, February 15, 2015, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. A private burial will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Coleman passed away Thursday, February 12, 2015. She was born in Lugoff on February 23, 1920, to the late Jerry C. and Fannie Rabon Ford and was the widow of Curtis E. Coleman, Sr. She attended Kershaw County Schools, graduated from Camden High School, and attended Columbia Business College. Mrs. Coleman was employed in several businesses, including Commercial Credit, before working for the State for approximately 30 years. She had the pleasure of working for six Governor-appointed Tax Commissioners before retiring. She was a member of Shandon United Methodist Church for 65 years and was active in her church activities: her circles, the Christian Home Class, the Wesley Fellowship Class and several important boards of the church. She was honored with recognition of life membership by Shandon United Methodist Women. Mrs. Coleman is survived by her children, Catherine “Cathy” Knox (Lex), Carolyn Thomas, Curtis Coleman, Jr. (Virginia) all of Columbia; grandchildren, Marion A. “Alex” Knox, III, Ashley C. Carnahan (Tristan), Trevor A. Knox, Curtis E. “Rett” Coleman, III (Jessie), Richard “Austin” Coleman (his fiancée, Michelle Krause), William “Beaty” Thomas (Angela), and Lora Coleman Thomas; great-grandchildren, Carolyn “Valley” Thomas, William “Baxter” Thomas, and Catherine Rose “Rosie” Carnahan. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a grandson, Robert “Ford” Thomas; her siblings, J.C. Ford, Jr., Willene Ford, and Lucille F. Hook.
