Lynne was born in Bronxville, NY, to George Shanahan and Phyllis Shanahan (née Parone). Her family lived in Bryn Mawr, PA, Chicago, IL, and Miami, FL, before returning to her mother’s native Hartford, CT, where Lynne spent most of her childhood.
Lynne graduated from the University of Southern Connecticut where she received her B.A. and M.A. in Special Education. She began her career as an elementary special education teacher at Barnard-Brown School in Hartford, CT.
Upon moving to Columbia to be closer to family, she continued her career as a developmental therapy teacher at Windsor Elementary School, where she was named Teacher of the Year.
She served as Assistant Principal and later Principal of Joseph Keels Elementary School. During that time, she also completed advanced educational leadership coursework at the University of South Carolina.
She retired from her role as the Richland School District Two Special Services Coordinator in 2012. Throughout her career, she made a meaningful impact on the lives of her students and felt an immense pride in their successes inside and outside of the classroom.
Lynne is survived by her son, Jeffrey DiBattisto and his wife Kelly, her daughter, Allison Ladue, her grandchildren, Alexander DiBattisto, Olivia DiBattisto, and James Veeder, and her cousin Janice Callahan. Lynne was predeceased by her infant son, Ryan Ladue.
A visitation for Lynne will be held from 5-7 PM on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at Dunbar Funeral Home Northeast. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made in her name to the children’s charity of your choosing.
Lynne will be remembered as a loving mother, devoted grandmother, and dedicated educator.
