A memorial service for Lee Roy Riddle, Sr., 72, of Cayce, will be held 2 o’clock, Saturday, January 7, 2012, at Broadacres Baptist Church. The Rev. Bill Geddings will officiate. The family will greet friends in the fellowship hall following the service. Shives Funeral Home, Columbia, is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to the church at 2350 Taylor Rd, Cayce, SC 29033.
Mr. Riddle died Thursday, January 5, 2012. Born in Greenville, SC, on April 6, 1939, he was a son of the late Lonnie and Ruth Godfrey Riddle. Lee graduated from Parker High School and served the State of South Carolina as a highway patrol officer for 20 years. Following his retirement from the force, he worked with Michelin Tire Corp. for 17 years. Mr. Riddle’s proudest work was as a servant of God. He was a longtime member of Broadacres Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and served as deacon. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, and trips to the mountains.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Barbara S. Riddle; daughter, Dawn Riddle Davenport (Brian), of Cayce; sons, Lee Riddle, Jr. (Pam), of Lexington, Steve Riddle (Susan), of Murrells Inlet, and Stevie Riddle of Cayce; Papa to his grandchildren, Brandon, Dena, and Brandi Riddle, Jeremy, Madison, and Brett Davenport; brothers, Sam O. Riddle, Lonnie E. Riddle (Joyce), and John Curtis Riddle; sister, Dolly Wright; brothers-in-law, Homer Bryant, Harley Sanders, and Gil Smith; sister-in-law, Grace Munn; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Riddle was preceded in death by his sisters, Garrell Sanders and Dorothy Bryant; and a brother, Everett Riddle.
