COLUMBIA - Services for June M. Alexander will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, Oct 14th at Shandon United Methodist Church, with burial to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. There will be visitation at 12:00 at the church prior to the service.
Mrs. Alexander, 87, passed away peacefully October 7, 2024.
Born in Dillon County on May 25, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Clifford Causley Moody and Lee Dale Sellers Moody.
Mrs. Alexander was a graduate of Dillon High School and Columbia Commercial College. She was crowned Miss Marion and Miss Dillon.
For several years she was employed by the law firm of Gasque and Seals in Marion, SC. She went to Washington DC to work on Senator Olin D. Johnston’s U.S. Senate Post Office & Civil Service Committee as Bill Clerk. She met her future husband, Robert L. Alexander, who was also on Senator Johnston’s staff.
Mrs. Alexander retired from the South Carolina Department of Education after 33 years. She enjoyed solving puzzles and reading. She was a member of Shandon United Methodist Church and the Joy Sunday School class. She also served as an usher and head funeral usher and was in the Bruner, Major, and Richardson Circles.
She was well known for a lot of spunk and not much filter. Her no-nonsense attitude usually didn’t leave anyone wondering about her thoughts.
Fortunately, her retirement occurred not long before the arrival of grandchildren. Whether she was taking them out for milkshakes, picking them up from school, or having them spend Saturday night and go to church with her. She never passed up time with them nor missed an opportunity to brag on them.
Survivors include her son and daughter in law, Ryan and Heather Alexander, granddaughter Ann Ryan Alexander, grandsons Case Robert Alexander and William Owen Alexander, of Columbia; nephews, Gregory C. Moody of Green Cove Springs, Fla., and Clifford P. Moody Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.
She was predeceased by her husband Robert L. Alexander, sisters Joyce Moody, Dora Moody, Myra M. Cave, Rachael M. Mott, Barbara M. McRae, her brother Clifford P. Moody, and a stepson Robin L. Alexander.
