COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Jean Spires Gamble, 90, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Gamble died Friday, November 26, 2021. Born in Columbia, SC, she was a daughter of the late Charles Fredrick Spires and Esther Keefe Spires Carnes. She worked as an Engineer for AT&T for 37 years until she retired. Jean was a member of IPTAY for 41 years. She was also a member of “We Are Olympia” and Whaley St. Neighborhood Association. Jean was the Sunday School secretary and taught young children at Southside Baptist Church, where she was a longtime member.
Surviving are her husband of 44 years, Larry O. Gamble; brother, Henry “Butch” Carnes (Mercedes) of Seattle, WA; nephews, Jerry Stevens (Janice) of Johnson City, TN, Jody Stevens (Peggy) of Gilbert, SC, Jay Stevens (Linda) of Charleston, SC, Thomas Riffle (Sunny) and Michael Riffle (Letha) both of Lexington, SC; and several grand nieces and grand nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Margaret Stevens and Georgia Riffle.
