COLUMBIA - A funeral service for J.D. “Buck” Fagan, Sr., 102, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Park Street Baptist Church, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
Mr. Fagan died Sunday, February 4, 2018. Born in Blythewood, SC, he was a son of the late George Washington Fagan and Ella Baker Fagan. He graduated in 1935 from Mt. Zion Institute in Winnsboro, SC, and served in the Air Force in 1943 during World War II. Self-employed in the appliance and furniture business, he was a member of Masonic Lodge 344 (Eau Claire), a past president of Richland Kiwanis Club, and a member and deacon of Park Street Baptist Church. A golfer and charter member of the Lexington Country Club, he was an avid gardener, and an inventor with two active patents.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Frances Motley Fagan; sister, Doris Lutz of Columbia, SC; daughter, Susan Moran of Boston, MA; son, James D. Fagan, Jr. of Columbia, SC; daughter, Elizabeth Fettler (Kevin) of Elgin, SC; three grandchildren, James Anthony Fagan of Waukeegan, IL, Heather Edge (Christopher) of Eugene, OR, and Nikki Arrants of Pelion, SC; and two great-grandchildren, James Lyday and Autumn Watson.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Charles E. Fagan and sisters, Bertha Mae Warren and Pauline Faulkenberry.
