Janice was born to John and Julia Kinney on September 8, 1953, in Atlanta, Georgia, where she spent her formative years. Janice had a wonderful childhood with lots of visits to Toccoa where her mother grew up on a farm where she got to see her grandparents and all of her aunts and uncles and cousins.
Janice inherited her love of science from her father and love of writing from her mother. After graduating from Lakeside High School, she earned a BA degree in English, cum laude, from UGA. While working at Celanese Specialty Resins in Louisville, Ky, through tuition reimbursement she was able to earn her BA degree in Chemistry from the University of Louisville. Janice was then promoted to Literature Specialist. Her career continued through various jobs at the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant.
In 1990, Janice moved to Charlotte, N.C. to work for Hoechst Celanese as a Technical Writer and, while in Charlotte, she earned an MBA from the McColl School of Business at Queens College. Then she was able to begin working in the field she most loved, writing help manuals for software at Broadway and Seymour. In 2002, Janice began working as a Technical Writer for LEAD Technologies, an imaging software company, where she worked until she retired in 2020.
When Janice was 10 years old, she was baptized at Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Decatur, Georgia, In 2008, she received her first eucharist and was confirmed in the Catholic Parish of St. Vincent de Paul in Charlotte, N.C. at the Easter Vigil with Saint Luke as her patron saint.
In July 2024. Janice moved to Wildewood Downs, a retirement community where she made steadfast friends and found a true fellowship, which reminded Janice of the days when she and her family and loving relatives would gather at the home of her maternal grandparents, Charlie and Almedia Hemphill, in Tococca, G.A. Janice dined and attended functions regularly with a group of friends at Wildewood Downs, regularly participated in a weekly communion service, and helped bring a Gospel Encounter class to the facility. Janice was a member of the St. John Neumann parish, where she attended a Maturing in Faith class, a Thursday church group, and several masses a week.
She is survived by her sister, Brenda Bowman, Brenda's children, Jeffrey (Amy) Bowman, Kristen (Curry) Moss, and Amanda (Christian) McClaran and their families, her uncle, Sandy Kinney and his family, as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
