Fred E. Quinn, Jr., 104, of West Columbia, SC passed away on February 21, 2024. Born September 18, 1919 in York, SC in the York County Jail, son of Essie W. and Fred E. Quinn, Sr., York County Sheriff. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and served as the executive officer of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity immediately after graduation. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served in the Aleutian Campaign of World War II and retired as a major from the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He went on to a successful career as a Certified Life Underwriter and retired from Home Security Life Insurance Company. Fred was a lifelong member of the Associate Reform Presbyterian Church and served many years as the Treasurer of Centennial ARP in Columbia. At the time of his death he was a member of First Presbyterian of Columbia.
Fred married Jessie (Ben) Stuckey in 1950 and they were married 48 years. He was preceded in death by his brother James and a son Jim. He is survived by his son, Elliotte (Annette) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandsons, Elliotte (Lyndsey), Ben (Megan) and great granddaughters, Connor, Hattie and Sadie.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Community for all their loving care and to Fred’s good friend Keitt Wannamaker for being there for him.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Still Hopes Retirement Community from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Columbia or to the Still Hopes Resident Assistance Fund.
