COLUMBIA - Frank Barry Walker was born the younger of two children to Frank and Katherine Walker in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. On November 13, 2016, God decided it was time for this Airman to fly home.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 21, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Dunbar Funeral Home Northeast Chapel. The family will receive friend from 12:00 to 4:00 pm on Sunday, November 20, 2016 and prior to the service on Monday, November 21, 2016 from 12:00 to 2:00.
Upon the death of his mother, when he was 12, Frank and Ida Brown (Uncle and Aunt), opened their hearts and home and continued in raising him to be the great man that he was. He was educated with the Philadelphia Public School System and graduated from New York Military Academy. He was a 1979 graduate of Villanova University with a Business Administration Degree. Upon graduation, he worked within the family businesses.
In 1982, Barry decided to see the world and enlisted into the United States Air Force. During his 22 years of military service, he traveled world from Illinois to Iceland, culminating with retirement at Clovis AFB, New Mexico in 2004. He was STEP Promoted to Master Sergeant in May 2000. His service medals are as followed: The AF Commendation Medal w 2OLC, AF Achievement Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, AF Outstanding Unit Award Silver OLC w/Valor, AF Good Conduct Medal w 4OLC, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary and Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal w 3 stars, Armed Forces Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), and Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait).
After retiring and moving to Columbia, South Carolina, Barry was employed at Lowes and the SC Department of Corrections. He furthered his education by attending Fortis and Centura Colleges receiving certificates in HVAC and Building Maintenance and Repair respectively.
He met and married Le’Moine (Necie) Scott Walker. This union brought forth two awesome children, Monique (Jerold) Lee of Columbia and Sgt. Terrance Walker of Naples Italy.
Barry is preceded in death by both sets of parents; a sister, Marlene Mariney; and a grandson, Joshua M. Lee. He leaves the following to rejoice in his memory, besides his wife and children, His Main Man - Jordan I. Lee (grandson), of Columbia; a brother, Michael Brown; a sister, Carolyn Vinson-Bundy both of Philadelphia PA; mothers-in-law, Eva M. Cobb of Washington DC and Everlena Samuels of Timmonsville; godmother, Phines Jones of Florence, SC; brother-in-law, Bernard (Tarji) Samuels of Detroit Michigan; sister-in-law, LaDonna (Kevin) Winestock, of Washington, DC; along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.
