A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, from 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. A military service will be held in Fort Jackson National Cemetery immediately following at 3:00 p.m.
Born in Cannonsville, NY, on May 25, 1929, Dr. Teed received his undergraduate degree from Albright Art School, Buffalo State University. He also received his Masters in Art Education and his Doctorate in Art Education, both from Penn State University. He came to the University of South Carolina as a Professor of Art in 1968. After 30 years of teaching art education and metalsmithing at USC, including serving as Chairman of the Art Education Division, Director of Undergraduate Studies and Director of Graduate Studies, Dr. Teed retired as a Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Art from USC.
Through his distinguished career, Dr. Teed was a member of the South Carolina Art Education Association serving as President multiple times. He also served on the National Art Education Association, the Guild of SC Artists, the Guild of Columbia, and the Board of Directors for both the SC Arts Alliance and the SC Alliance for Arts Education. Dr. Teed committed countless hours through his life to developing grade school art programs in the Columbia area and throughout SC. Teaching children about creative arts was his passion.
Dr. Teed was also an accomplished musician. He was a member of the Palmetto Mastersingers of Columbia performing throughout the state, as well as in Europe, Russia and China. He sang for over 30 years in the choir of Asbury United Methodist Church in Columbia.
Dr. Teed is survived by his wife of 63 years, Darlene Sapp Teed; his daughter, Kimberly Teed Hranowsky, and her husband, Nicholas Hranowsky, Jr., of Mount Pleasant, SC, and his son, Bradley Earl Teed, and his wife, Ellen Marie Teed. Dr. Teed is survived by a granddaughter, Katharine Elizabeth Hranowsky, a junior at Wando High School in Mount Pleasant.
