COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Donald Lee Van Koevering, 84, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, followed by a burial in Fort Jackson National Cemetery with full military honors at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at the funeral home.
Mr. Van Koevering died Friday, March 26, 2021. Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he was a son of the late Edward Minor Van Koevering and Thelma Marie Douglas Van Koevering. He served in the U.S. Army for 22 years in Special Forces – Green Beret until he retired. After retiring from the military, he was a supervisor for several construction companies. He was an ambassador for Aphasia Association.
Surviving are his children, Jason Van Koevering (Christina) of Lexington, SC, Ida Van Koevering of Savannah, GA, Edward Van Koevering (Carolyn) of Detroit, MI, Kim Van Koevering of Kentwood, MI and Julie Van Koevering of Michigan; sister, Shirley Visser; nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mr. Van Koevering is also survived by long time dear friend Joy Bishop of Columbia, SC.
