COLUMBIA - Claude H. Belk, Jr. died January 14, 2015. He was 68. Born on February 9, 1946 in Anderson, South Carolina, Claude was the son of the late Claude Hamilton Belk, Sr. and Jessie Melton Belk, and brother to the late Rita Belk Baker, all of Columbia. Claude is survived by his son, Claude Hamilton Belk, III, of Mt. Pleasant, daughter, Frances Clark Johnston (Chad), granddaughter, Beatrice Caroline Johnston, and nephew, Kevin Baker, all of Columbia. Claude was a member of the first graduating class of A.C. Flora High School (1964), where he was the quarterback of the football team and attended Boys State. He went on to graduate with a B.S. Degree in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina (1969), and was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. From 1968 to 1973, Claude served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. He was a salesman for IBM in the early 1970’s, and later sold insurance for State Mutual Insurance Company. Memorials may be made to Shandon United Methodist Church (3407 Devine Street, 29205), where Claude was a longstanding and active member. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, January 16, from 5p.m. to 7p.m., at Dunbar Funeral Home (2926 Devine Street, 29205).
