Born on July 21, 1927 in New Britain, Connecticut, he was the son of the late Carl Emil and Bertha Matilda Berry.
Celebration of Life Services will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Northeast Presbyterian Church, with inurnment at Fort Jackson National Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Dan loved people and never met a stranger. He had a smile for anyone he met and loved spending time with family and friends. He considered any day he could make someone laugh to be a good day. His family was more important to him than anything.
Dan was an avid reader and especially loved history. In his retirement, he enjoyed golf and tennis for many years. He enjoyed working in the yard and playing cards was a favorite pastime throughout his life. Dan loved music and loved to dance, especially with his great-granddaughters in his later years.
After serving in the Army during World War II, Dan returned to college and graduated from Central Connecticut State College. He worked as an accountant and as a systems analyst for a number of companies before retiring from CBS Records.
Dan was a Mason and volunteered in many community, civic and church activities throughout his lifetime. He was a founding member of Hope Lutheran Church in Lady Lake, Florida where he maintained membership until moving to SC in 2014 and becoming a member of Northeast Presbyterian Church, where he continued to enjoy Bible study.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Betty Jo Berry; sisters, Norma Wallace and Elizabeth Berry; grandson, Timothy John Berry; and sons-in-law, John Cockburn and Bob DeRoner.
Survivors include his children, Jan DeRoner, Joyce Cockburn, John (Debi) Berry, and David (Pat) Berry; grandchildren, Chris Berry, Carl Daniel Berry II ( Maggie), Raymond Berry (Julie) , Michael Berry, Andrew Berry, and Elizabeth Cockburn; and great grandchildren, Caleb Cockburn Shipitz, Hannah Berry, Carl Daniel Berry III, Evan Berry, Noelle Sanders, Lana Berry, Olivia Sanders, Ella Berry and Zane Berry.
Memorial contributions may be made to Northeast Presbyterian Church or Heart of Hospice in Columbia, SC.
