Mrs. Barbara “Bobbie” Ann Hutto Wilson, age 87, passed away on November 16, 2021 at The Heritage at Lowman. Born in Columbia, SC, she was a daughter of the late Frances Amelia Bookhart Moorer Hutto and Daniel Darlen Hutto. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, James Reed Wilson, Sr., her 3 sisters: Margaret Elizabeth Hutto, Frances H. Bouknight, and Edith H. Carter Wharton. She worked for many years at the University of SC in Personnel, the President’s, and Provost’s offices. She retired from Columbia College and moved to Statesboro, GA in 1995. She returned to Lexington, SC in 2019.
Survivors include her 4 beloved children: Rebecca “Becky” Lowder (David) of Statesboro, GA, Susan W. Forsythe (Will) of Lexington, James “Jimmy” R. Wilson, Jr. (Lisa) of Flowery Branch, GA, and Laurie W. Rauch of West Columbia. Also surviving are her 6 grandchildren: Christopher and Timothy Lowder, Amanda Pack, Daniel Wilson and Sarah W. Bryant, and Stephanie Rauch and step-granddaughter, Lara F. Katich. Great grandchildren include Ava, Colleen, Adelaide, Scarlett, Sebastian, Rorie and Riley. She also is survived by her 2 honorary children, Peg Scott Rentz Bentzinger and H. Philip Manuel who kept in touch regularly for 50 years.
Her happiest times were when she spent time with her loving family including many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She had a house full after church delighting all with her wonderful “Sunday Dinner” feast. She loved animals (especially her dogs) that she had from childhood and up to her death. Music was her passion and she enjoyed doing crafts, flowers and gardening and being around nature. Whenever you hear an Elvis song, smile because she sent it to you from heaven.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Elmwood Cemetery Mausoleum, 501 Elmwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29201 with inurnment to follow. Visitation will be one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name to Main Street United Methodist Church, 1830 Main Street, Columbia, SC 29201-2410, www.mainstumc.com/budget or the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.
