Anna Gawlicka-Chruszcz passed away unexpectedly on September 2nd 2022. Anna was an amazing and accomplished woman, and she will be deeply missed. She was born in Krakow, Poland on October 12th 1973 to Marek and Barbara Gawlicki. Anna was a loving wife and mother. She is survived by her husband, Maksymilian Chruszcz, her two daughters Zuzanna and Lucja Chruszcz, and her father Marek Gawlicki.
Anna graduated from Jagiellonian University (Krakow, Poland) in 2003 with Ph.D. in chemistry. Prior to starting her doctorate, she was a fellow at the French Atomic Energy Commission in Grenoble (1997). After moving to the USA, she worked for HKL Research Inc. (Charlottesville, Virginia). Later, in Columbia, she found a passion for baking and worked for Crust Bakehouse, before returning to her academic roots and working as a laboratory instructor at the University of South Carolina. She enjoyed sharing her knowledge with students who were just starting their college chemistry education.
Anna was a good hearted, kind and friendly person who was always ready to help others. She placed her family first, and dedicated her best years to her daughters and husband. Anna liked family walks and her favorite places included the Saluda Riverwalk or a beach at the Isle of Palms. She admired the beauty of orchids and loved to receive them in place of cut flowers. Anna was an avid reader and enjoyed a well written book, however she would never disregard a good movie. She had a quick wit with a talent for sarcasm, and took pleasure in friendly banter.
Anna always trusted God and valued instilling faith in her daughters’ lives.
The funeral mass will take place on September 10th at 10 am in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1610 Greene Street, Columbia, SC 29201. Anna’s and family friends are invited to participate in a reception that will follow the mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks to donate to MIRCI in Columbia: https://crm.bloomerang.co/HostedDonation?ApiKey=pub_2dd40b32-1b4f-11e9-9f3d-0aa640fb8062&WidgetId=1632256
