BLYTHEWOOD - Alice Lavone Newman Hollis, 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 13, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of Glenn Y. Hollis Jr. They shared 62 wonderful years of marriage.
Born in Columbia, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Murphy Elliott Newman and the late Carrie Newman Reece. She graduated from Dreher High School. After a career working for Arnolds Cleaners, Alice and her husband Glenn traveled the world. She was a long-time member of Killian Baptist Church. In her younger days, she enjoyed bowling and square dancing competitively. She was a devoted wife that enjoyed being with her husband and taking care of her family.
Surviving are her children, sons, Donny M. Hollis (Patricia) of Blythewood, Steve D. Hollis of Columbia; daughter, Janette H. Robinson (Joe) of Blythewood; grandchildren, Jennifer M. Hollis (Mary) of Lugoff, Adam M. Hollis (Kristen) of Columbia, Devon J. Robinson of Arlington, VA, Carson G. Hollis of Columbia; and great-grandchildren, Abigail M. Hollis, Baylor M. Hollis, Savannah M. Hollis. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Glenn Y. Hollis Jr, sister Eugenia Newman Rogers, and brother Joseph Elliot Newman.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel. A private burial for family only will be held in Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
