Steve Wayne McKenzie, 77, was called to his eternal home on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. He was a carpenter by trade and worked for various companies including McKenzie Construction which he owned and operated. He excelled in his ability to build perfection and was so noted in a feature story in Southern Living Magazine. Steve was a man of strong faith. He was a minister with the Church of God, Cleveland, TN with longstanding membership at Mt. Carmel Church of God. Steve enjoyed the outdoors, deer hunting, and especially to fish. Steve loved traveling to many places including his favorite, the Great Smokey Mountains, though his favorite pastime, was spending time with family and enjoying his grandchildren. Throughout life, Steve would love on people and people would love back. He always would say, “I’m a winner either way”. Steve will be greatly missed.
Mr. McKenzie was preceded in death by his parents, N.C. McKenzie and Inez Regan McKenzie. He is survived by his wife, Martha McKenzie; his daughter, Shelley McKenzie; sisters, Patricia Rutland, and Evelyn Miller (Myron); a brother, Milton McKenzie (Vondell); his granddaughter, Kimberly McKenzie, two great-grandchildren, Everly Serie, and Jasper Holmes; and a host of extended family and friends.
Visitation for Steve will be held Friday, February 23, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Mt. Carmel Church of God where friends may visit one hour prior to services. Doctor Daniel Smith, Reverend Tommy Pittman, and Reverend Jennifer Forbes will officiate and burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery assisted by Jeff McKenzie, Calvin Martin, Wayne Martin, Tommy Martin, Harold Bebe, and Daniel Graham as pallbearers, and honorary pallbearers, Jimmy McKenzie, Dewey Lott, Wayne Turnage, Tommy Reagan and Bob Miller.
