Vivian L. Piles, 91, passed away on February 4, 2022 in Kansas City, MO Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 West, Columbia with burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may gather at the funeral home from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm prior to the service.
Vivian L. Piles was born with twin sister Velma on June 6, 1930 to Mary Willis Johnson and William Johnson in Saline Co. MO. Vivian married Billy J Piles August 3, 1984. Vivian and Billy met at work UMCHC and had their wedding at the UMCHC chapel.
Vivian did private duty night nursing in Fayette when her kids were young, she owned and managed Gaslight Inn Restaurant in Fayette from 1973 to 1975, she worked as a nursing technician from 1975 to 1992 at UMCHC, and after retiring from the University she worked part-time for 6 years at the Holiday Inn Express in Columbia. Her co-workers often described her as having a positive cheerful attitude, they also said she was wonderful, helpful, and kind. She always came to work willing to work and help in any way she could. She was a member of the Lutheran Church in Boonville prior to moving to KC. She attended New Franklin Public schools thru 1945.
Vivian was a hardworking, dedicated individual, and loved gardening, cooking, fishing, playing cards, dancing, and being a social butterfly. Her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she loved showering everyone with gifts. She was excited about a set of twins on the way.
Vivian is survived by her children, Betty Level of Gladstone, MO, Sacha Colvin of Scottsdale, AZ, Louise Rada of Gladstone, MO, Mary Gaffney of Dothan AL, and Gail Colvin of Galveston TX; sisters, Dorothy Lynch of Kansas City, KS and Ruby Hazell of Marshall, MO; grandchildren, Katlin Hawes, Karen Jones, Paul Rada, and Charity Hart; as well as 11 great-grandchildren. Vivian loved Billy's brother Jack and wife Mary, she was very fond of Jack and Mary's children
Vivian was preceded in death by her husband Billy Piles (1991), son David Colvin in (1991), her twin sister Velma Hein and sister Grace Brayman Schoby, brothers Eugene and William Johnson all of Marshall, as well as one half-brother and three half-sisters, and sons-in law Hanamel Rada of Gladstone, MO (2022) and Mike Level of Gladstone, MO (2021)
Vivian was very much loved by her daughters and will be missed.
