Services will be Monday, April 21, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church with a visitation at 10 AM with Funeral Services beginning at 11 AM. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Vida was born on July 29, 1935, in Three Sands, OK, the daughter of Henry Grady Sorrows and Mable Gertrude (Emmons) Sorrows. She met Duane while in nursing school, and they formed a strong bond that saw them through all of life's trials. They were married on April 8, 1956. Their union lasted 57 years until Duane’s passing.
Vida became a member of the Lutheran church after meeting Duane, where they raised their children and saw their grandchildren and great grandchildren also continue to worship. She attended church regularly at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbia. This was a keen focus in her life, to be sure her family stayed grounded in faith through the doctrine of the Lutheran church.
After Vida graduated from St Francis, she accepted a position in Columbia, and the family moved from Wichita to their lifelong home on West Parklane. Vida took great pride in her home and yard, and often entertained or hosted functions there. She was a master gardener, with acres of beautiful flowers, shrubs, and trees. In the winter Vida sewed, quilted, crocheted, and cooked the most delicious meals for her family and friends. She was a fantastic cook, with a huge variety of dishes she could cook from egg rolls to the most elaborate Thanksgiving dinner. Her fried chicken was legendary.
Vida retired early so that she could be home with her grandchildren. Vida and Duane loved the grandchildren tremendously, and traveled to watch them play sports, race motorcycles, race barrel horses-no place was too far away. They went fishing on small lakes and taught the kids to ski. They enjoyed an annual vacation with the kids and they traveled all over the country together. She taught them to work hard, help someone in need, and to always love one another.
Vida is survived by her children: Allen Schneider; Jeffery (Nanette) Schneider; her grandchildren: Jennifer Schneider; Katherine Mastagne; Jacob (Samantha) Schneider; Grady (Carolyn) Sorrows; Wendel (Blanche) Dugan and Shirley (Ted) Harsha. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Raymond, Jack, Jim, Francis, Evelyn and Bertha as well as her husband: Duane.
