Mildred "Midge" Wenger

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia, Missouri. A visitation will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2025 until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Columbia, Missouri.

She graduated from Montezuma Iowa High School in 1944. She was accepted and enrolled in the Cadet Nurse Corps and entered Nursing school at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa and graduated as an R.N. in 1948.

While in the nursing program in Des Moines, she met her future husband Jack Wenger, who was also training at Iowa Lutheran as an X-Ray Technician. They were united in marriage on February 8, 1947. Jack preceded her in death in 1998.

In 1949 the couple moved to Columbia, Missouri and both pursued careers in the medical field. Mildred, who most called “Midge,” started at Boone County Hospital in the OB-GYN unit.. She later moved to the Emergency Room and worked as Night Nurse. Supervisor. In the early 1980’s she returned to the career she loved by joining the staff at the University of Missouri Student Clinic.

During her years in Columbia, she volunteered for the Red Cross Bloodmobile, Meals on Wheels, Shepherd’s Basket, and a quilter at the Columbia Senior Center. She was a long time member of Parkade Baptist Church where she served on many committees and taught Sunday School for twenty years.

Survivors include sons, Mark Wenger of Columbia, Bruce Wenger (Cherise) of Pensacola, Fl, daughter in laws Debbie Wenger of Columbia, Teresca Wenger of Greenville, Tx., 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Wenger, 2 sons Craig Wenger Columbia, and Scott Wenger Rockwall Tx., her parents, 7 sisters, Hazel Klein, Catherine DeBooy, Pauline Spain, Wilma VerSteeg, Betty Springer, Lena Patterson, Bernice Bias and 3 infant sisters.
