Mary Evelyn Williams, 78, a life-long resident of Columbia, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024, in Columbia with family at her side. Her Home Going Service will be at 12pm, Saturday, December 14th at Memorial Funeral Home 1217 Business Loop 70 West Columbia. Friends may gather from 11-12p before the service.
Mary was born March 8, 1946, in Columbia, to Frank Williams, Sr. and Mary Hughes. She was very skilled in various arts and crafts, raising plants, and creating beautiful floral and plant arrangements. She also owned a small business in crafting, was a daycare provider and foster parent. Mary had a great love for children, adopting nine, and serving as a foster mother to many more. She was the first mother to several children and provided a loving home in which they could grow physically and spiritually. With 9 kids, Mary had a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She played a big role in several of the lives of her nieces and nephews, Lisa Porter, Nicole Preston, Shayna Preston, & Alvino Williams; either by raising them to adulthood, or watching them extended periods of time. She had a heart for God and Jesus, and she shared that love with every person she met. She was a former member of Wright’s temple C.O.G.I.C. and Member of Columbia Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Mary never had any children of her own, but she spent much of her live loving and caring for other’s children. She gave a home to anyone in need, and to any animal in need. She enjoyed creating masterpieces from nothing; giving an old pringles can or milk jug a new decorative purpose. As a young lady, she spent time traveling and living abroad in Germany and Colorado. She even cut a rug with Tina Turner a time or two.
She is survived by her children, Camika Williams, Amie Richardson, Terrance Williams, Marcee Williams, Kennan Williams, India Williams, Cheyenne Williams, Joshua Williams; sisters, Debbie, Dorothy, and Jennie; grandchildren, Melani Williams, Ajanique Williams and many more grandchildren and a large loving extended family. She was preceded in death by a son, Darron Williams; brothers, Frankie Williams, Jr. & Alvino Williams; and a sister, Velma Williams.
Mary’s family wishes to extend a special thanks to her daughter, Camika Williams, nurse Lindsey, and the staff of St. Croix Hospice for all the care they gave to Mary.
