A mass funeral service will be held Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 10:00 am at the funeral home with Father Simon officiating.
Lorine was born on Friday, September 13, 1935, in Jefferson City, MO, the daughter of Benjamin and Catherine (Hartman) Oidtman. She was united in marriage on February 1, 1965 to Thomas Oliver Hart in Jefferson City, MO at St. Peter’s Catholic Church and shared 56 years together prior to his passing on August 8, 2021. Tom always said it would be a hot day in the winter before he got married and so it was as Feb 1, 1965 was 70 degrees that day.
Lorine worked at the Truman Building in Jefferson City prior to being married. Once a wife, she became a stay-at-home Mom on the farm together with Tom raising four children: Nancy, Ben, Susan, and Peggy. Once Peggy entered school, Lorine became a school cook at Hatton McCredie Elementary School. She would later work at a band uniform factory in Fulton, MO; a Pinkerton security guard for Shelter Insurance in Columbia, MO; and finally a production associate at Watlow in Columbia retiring from there in 2001 after 12 years.
Lorine was a good natured and happy go lucky woman. She welcomed adventure, travel, and a good party. She cherished Sunday’s as that was the day for church, donuts, visiting family, and playing cards. Sunday’s we’re good China days with pot roast or fried chicken. Other activities she loved doing was dancing, sewing, and working out at Anytime Fitness well into their 80’s. She enjoyed games, being the center of attention, and was always ready to try something new including getting fake sleeve tattoos when she turned 88 yrs old. Mom was also known for her beautiful thick snow white hair that she was often complimented on.
In her early years, she attended and graduated from St. Peter’s in Jefferson City, MO. After marrying and moving to northern Callaway County she attended St. Peter’s in Fulton, and later was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes in Columbia. She loved her family but the Church and Lord were her rock foundation. At Our Lady of Lourdes she and Irene were an observer on T. E. C. Teens Encounter Christ weekend then served as a team member on another. She and Irene also were on Cursillo weekend together and many years involved as a team member helping to give talks and witnessing on Cursillo weekends.
As dementia took over, her and Tom moved to Churchill Terrace Assisted Living in Fulton until Tom’s passing and then she moved to JC Manor in Jefferson City completing her circle of life on October 22, 2023. Her dementia prevented her from remembering names so to get someone’s attention she would say “Honey, Ma’am, Honey Ma’am.” It was quite charming and endearing. A special thank you to Leon Gosche for praying with her. It brought her peace. And to Irene Ostrowski for being such a great friend and church buddy for many years. But a huge thank you to her nieces and nephews from Taos and Jefferson City: Mary Jo and Keith Henke, Danny and Clara Hillen, Kathy Hillen, Diane and Mark Struemph, and her sister Sharon and Virgil Kirkweg for the many visits, hospital stays, lunches attended, cards, gifts, and prayers. Each of you are exceptional and enriched her life greatly. It is with deep gratitude to say THANK YOU for everything you’ve done. She loved you very much and was always happy to see you.
Lorine is survived by four children daughters Nancy Berrey, Susan Hart, and Peggy Hart all of Columbia, MO; son Benjamin Hart (wife Tricia) of Olathe, KS; sister Sharon (husband Virgil) of St. Thomas, MO; brother-in-laws Richard Hart of San Antonio, TX and Jack Hart (wife Louise) of Winchester, IN, four grandchildren Catherine Berrey of Fulton, MO, Lukas Berrey (girlfriend Lainee Clayton) of Columbia, MO, Madeline Hart of Topeka, KS, and Liv Hart of Springfield, MO; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
