Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Monday, April 25, 2016, at Memorial Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will at from 11 am, Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at Friendship Baptist Church, 1707 Smiley Ln, Columbia. Burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pete was born on November 30, 1945, in Columbia, and later graduated from Fredrick Douglass High School. He served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. He married Alyce Jordan on February 4, 1968. They later moved to Denver, CO. Pete joined Bethlehem Baptist Church when arriving to Colorado and did mission visits with Pastor Miles. He always said he had a calling to minister in the church. Pete joined the teamster and drove trucks over the road for over 30 years. He loved the open road, the Rocky Mountains and fishing with Anna by his side for so many of those ventures. He was also proud of opening his own business, M&T Trucking Escort Company. Pete moved back to Missouri in 2004 to spend more time with his family.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Bertha Matthews; siblings: Charles Matthews, Betty Kelly, Helen Matthews, Mattie Blueitt, Juetta Sias, Tribia Matthews; grandson Toris Price Jr., and his son Antuane Mathews.
Survivors include his children Darrell Jordan, Irvin (Ann) Mathews Jr, Kasondra Mathews, Pete (Latosha) Jackson, Brandon Jackson, Thomas Jackson and Regina Lasater; 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He also leaves four siblings: Joseph Matthews, Don Matthews, Payton Matthews and Charolette Matthews, and his dedicated companion and loving confidant Anna Kelly.
Pete was a strong father and great grandfather and will be dearly missed by all.
