A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia, MO. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 1, at the First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Missouri Valley College, Marshall, MO, Woodhaven Care Center, Columbia, MO, or First Presbyterian Church, Columbia, MO.
Guy was born October 20, 1933 in Blackwater, MO to Fritz and Minerva Schupp. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1952. He graduated from Missouri Valley College in 1956 and obtained a PhD in Physics from Iowa State University in 1960.
On July 28, 1962, he married Marian L. Glime in Forest City, IA. They made their first home in Princeton, NJ. In 1964, they moved to Columbia, MO. For the next 40 years, Guy was a professor at the University of Missouri, where he taught classes and performed research at the University of Missouri Research Reactor. Guy was also an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he sang in the choir for over 50 years, served as an Elder, a Deacon and on the Board of Trustees and was active with the Boy Scouts. Through his participation in the life of the church, Guy made many life-long friends.
In addition to his work and church, Guy enjoyed traveling with Marian. After her passing, he continued to act as a tour guide showing family and friends many of the unique places he had visited and, sought out new adventures with them as well. Guy enjoyed Mizzou basketball and football and, was a long-time season ticket holder. He was also an avid tennis player, competing in tournaments all across the Midwest, achieving a national ranking of 24 in the men’s 55 age bracket.
Guy was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Fritz Schupp, his wife, Marian, and son, John M. Schupp. He is survived by his son, Mark C. Schupp and wife, Shara, and grandchildren, Grace and Cade, of Boonville, MO. He is survived by a grandson, Eric, of Kansas City, MO and additional family and friends.
