

Georgia Esther Hunter, 91, died Monday, August 3, 2015 at The Bluffs in Columbia, MO. A celebration of her life will be held Friday, August 7, at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia with the Rev. Ed Rollins officiating. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. followed by the memorial service at 11 a.m.
Georgia Hunter was born July 16, 1924 in Miller Missouri to Loy and Minnie Gossett.
She attended Roper Rural School and graduated from Halltown High School in 1942.
She attended Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar Missouri in 1943. Because of WWII, she obtained her teaching certificate and taught in the rural schools of Aurora and Roper Rural School near Halltown from 1943 to 1946. Following her teaching career, Georgia served as secretary to the Superintendent of Schools in Mt. Vernon eventually moving to Jefferson City to serve as secretary in the state REA office. She married R. Keith Hunter on June 16, 1951. Together they have two children, Jane Hunter and Charles Hunter of Columbia.
Georgia was an active 64-year member of First Baptist Church, Columbia. She enjoyed teaching, serving on the Board of Deacons and Superintendent of the Primary Department Sunday School. She had a special place in her heart for the Child Development Center of First Baptist Church. Georgia loved her family and treasured her grandchildren Leah and David. Becoming a great-grandmother in recent days was a highlight! Georgia enjoyed spending time with friends, cooking wonderful meals, and traveling with Keith in the United States, England and Italy.
Georgia is survived by her children, grandchildren, great granddaughter as well as nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, and daughter-in-law, Carol Hunter.
Georgia will be deeply missed by those who know and love her.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Child Development Center of First Baptist Church-Scholarship Fund.
