Dennis, Denny, Dad, Poppy. Dennis Lee Lynch, born on October 12, 1942, was known by many names. He’d say some are maybe not as good as others, then give us that sly but adorable smile, and laugh! Always adding a witty and often times hilarious remark to any conversation, Dennis was kind, thoughtful, loving (and loveable), funny, smart and truly a beautiful human being! His pride and joy were his son, Rob, and his two grandchildren Annabelle and Andrew Lynch. It didn’t matter the reason – whether celebrating a potty-training milestone, or laughing at a hilarious toddler response, to celebrating them getting their driver’s licenses, he was the first one to make sure everyone around him knew what they did! He was so proud when Andrew bought his first truck with his own money, then taught himself how to repair it, or made a great football play; and, equally as proud cheering on Annabelle during her K-12 soccer career and seeing her graduate from college. He took enormous pride in every single thing they did! He loved them so! The love of his life, Sharon, and he shared in the joy of their precious grandchildren.
Born in Akron, OH and raised in Little Rock, AR, he would eventually meet his dear Sharon and marry in 1965. They spent those early and formative years in Little Rock where they made wonderful memories and lifelong friends and raised their extraordinary son, Rob. Dennis and Sharon eventually ended up in Columbia, MO. It was here where Dennis served 20+ years as an Ambassador with the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, he also served on the Ronald McDonald board and as their board President. He continued to serve the community as President of the Columbia Board of Realtors.
Between cheering on the Mizzou football team, building a very successful realty business, meeting with his beloved “coffee group” every day for decades (a daily ritual that he cherished), Dennis truly was the man about town! His love for Columbia was deeply rooted in the friendships he formed and the people he encountered along the way.
Together, Dennis and Sharon joined the Missouri United Methodist Church and have been loyal stewards ever since. They’ve traveled the world, embarked on culinary adventures, and appreciated and loved every moment together. Perhaps most important, even after 58 years they found joy in laughing at each other’s quips and jokes! Although his last weeks were long and difficult, he is with his Father in heaven and can once again be his funny, ornery, happy self! And this is how he’ll be remembered.
Those of us who loved him unequivocally and have parted with his earthly body but never his soul or beautiful heart are: Sharon Lynch, his cherished wife of 58 years. Their son, Rob, daughter-in-law, Rebecca (Young), and their children Annabelle and Andrew. His dear sister Vicki Patterson, and her husband, Larry. Their daughter, Staci Broski, and her family, Brian, Brinnin and Brady. As well as other extended family and many, many friends. Dennis’ parents, Sumner LeRoy Lynch, and Phyllis Fisk Lynch Lovell preceded him in death.
All are invited to help celebrate Dennis’ accomplished life on Friday, August 16 at Missouri United Methodist Church 204 S. 9th St., Columbia, MO 65201. Visitation 10 a.m. – 10:50 a.m with a Celebration of Life at 11am.
