Bill began his career at Skelly Oil Company and stayed with the company through several takeovers until his retirement (Skelly, Getty, Texaco, Shell and Chevron). He began his career in programming computers when they looked like huge boxes and took up an entire room, was promoted to management, and returned to programming as a consultant at the end of his career. His logical brain enjoyed writing programs and working out the bugs in lines of code.
Bill was a man well-loved and led a life well-lived. He loved to tell stories, eat good food in good company, and go on Sunday drives. Although he often had a gruff exterior, he had a kind and generous heart. He would make conversation with anyone and he enjoyed making everyone smile. And for those he loved, he let them know by visiting, calling, and staying in touch with friends and family across the country.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Alice (Haupt) Jones; his daughters, Allison Jones of Houston, TX and Suzanne Yonke of Columbia, MO; his grandsons, Locke Parrish and Ethan Yonke; his brother, Charles Jones of Fort Myers, FL; his sister, Brenda Putney of Appomattox, VA; and many beloved family members and dear friends.
A visitation for Billy will be held Friday, March 4, 2022 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm followed by a Celebration of Life at 3:00 pm, both on Friday, March 4, 2022 at Memorial Funeral Home, Columbia, Missouri. A dinner reception will follow at 6:00 pm, in the Terrance Room at Les Bourgeois, 14020 W Hwy Bb, Rocheport, MO 65279.
