Dr. Patricia Jane Browning (Bayless), 90, educator, died December 29, 2021. Pat, as she was known, was born November 2, 1931, to Ben and Ollie Bayless in Somerton, Arizona. She was a twin to brother Bill Bayless, the youngest in a family of seven children.

She was raised in Somerton, Arizona, moving to Creswell, Oregon in her teens. Pat graduated from Creswell High in 1948. She earned her B.S. and teaching credential from Cal Poly, Pomona in 1965. She went on to earn her master’s degree in education from CSULA in 1968, her administrative credential in 1973, and Doctorate in Education from University of La Verne in 1989.

Patricia married William Browning in 1950 and had 3 children, Brett, Laura and Linda Browning. Family was everything to Pat. From 1961 on, Pat raised all 3 children on her own as she taught school, continuing her education at night. She felt getting her teaching credential was the best accomplishment to create a better life. Pat was the most dedicated, loving mother, working every summer as well to provide a comfortable and happy life for her children. She supported and encouraged them endlessly. She took pride in them as her greatest accomplishment.

Pat lived a life of service. She was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher and youth director. She taught elementary school, was a reading specialist, and principal for the Fontana School District during her career. Pat was a cancer survivor and volunteered with the American Cancer Society, visiting other cancer patients after their mastectomies in the hospital. She mentored several educators throughout her career. Following her retirement Pat volunteered in Brett and Laura’s classrooms, serving students, and teaching alongside her children.

Pat was a devoted grandmother who took her grandchildren on many adventures, always filled with laughter and fun. Pat had many treasured friendships that lasted until her death. She enjoyed being with family and friends, traveling and reading.

Pat is survived by her son, Brett Browning (Linda), daughter Laura Tiegs (Gary), granddaughters Krista, Andrea, and Adrienne, grandsons Eric and Craig, great granddaughter Ellie, and great grandsons Will, Cameron, Bradley, Spencer, Jack and Carson. Patricia will be dearly missed by all friends and loved ones. There will be a graveside service for family members due to the pandemic February 2, 2022 at Montecito Cemetery in Colton, California.
