A wonderful wife, mother, sister, and friend with unending love and deep-rooted determination coupled with perseverance and unfaltering trust in God provide only a glimpse into the legacy and life of Jeanie Beth Ang Barber.
Jeanie Beth was born to Rolando and Elizabeth Ang on June 8, 1976, in
Kidapawan North Cotabato, Philippines. Jeanie Beth, affectionately known as
Bing, attended Lakeview Academy in Don Carlos Bukingnon during her elementary years and graduated High School from Mindanao Mission
Academy. The family settled in Cagayan De Oro City where she attended
Cagayan Capitol College, graduating with a BSN degree in Nursing. Jeanie Beth embraced a delight in learning and excelled academically despite facing sometimes challenging economics and the devastating loss of her father at an early age.
Jeanie Beth's intelligence, beauty, and sweet spirit caught the eye of Michael Barber. Michael had been introduced by his good friend, Bill Sweet, who after getting married and returning from the Philippines, brought back Jeanie's picture an address whom he had met while there. He told Michael that they were alike and encouraged him to write to Jeanie Beth and become penpals.
After writing and getting to know each other for almost a year, Michael flew over and met Jeanie Beth and her family. Impressed by her warm spirit, humor, and steadfast faith in God, he asked Jeanie to marry him. Michael flew back to the Philippines 30 days later as she prepared for the wedding and were happily married on June 7, 1997, in Cagayan De Oro City, Philippines. Their three children—Michael, Elizabeth, and Jeanette were to this loving union.
Michael and Jeanie started their married life in Compton California. Michael worked as a building contractor and Jeanie, after passing her nursing boards exam, started her nursing career with her first job at a nursing rehabilitation facility in west Los
Angeles. Before the couple moved to Loma Linda, California, Jeanie also worked at several hospitals; one being Mary Hospital in Torrance, California.
Upon moving, Jeanie worked at the Loma Linda Hospital in the Heart Recovery
Intensive Care Unit. Jeanie had a passion for learning and obtained many certifications and awards during her career. Michael and Jeanie later started
Amazing Grace Homecare Services, a company specializing in sending caregivers and associates to clients' homes to provide assisted care. Jeanie's tenacity and perseverance allowed the company to thrive and build connections with those who sought such services. The couple’s company continued to grow and developed a reputation of honest, quality care.
Jeanie Beth was a faithful steward in Christ. She participated in various choirs while growing up in the Philippines, including Midinow Mission Academy and Cagayan
Capital College. Before moving to the United States, Jeanie was also a member of the
1000 Missionary Outreach which she showed the utmost joy for. The participants in this program are dedicated to preaching the gospel around the Philippines.
In the United States, Jeanie Beth became a member of the Waterman Seventh Day
Adventist church and later moved to Loma Linda University Church. In any event her children were involved with, in church or school, Jeanie Beth was always a faithful organizer in arranging group church activities and building fellowship with those around her.
Jeanie selflessly helped her family back home in the Philippines; working tirelessly in the family businesses and serving in additional jobs as a student to help provide financial and emotional support to her family. After arriving in the United States,
Jeanie continued to support her family by helping her siblings pursue their education. Some of which become Registered Nurses who are working in the field today.
Jeanie Beth's life was a living example of showing others the love described in 1
Corinthians 13:5:7, "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."
As Jeanie Beth battled a painful year with lung cancer, she continued to abide in
Christ. She was a true testament to this world as a Christian. The end of life, rather than any of its preceding stages reveals character and exemplifies the test of quality.
Jeanie Beth's faith remained unwavering in Christ. Even in her greatest weakness,
Jeanie Beth was strong. She maintained a strong sense of peace that can only come when our mind is stayed on Jesus that is described in Isaiah 26:34.
Jeanie Beth never complained throughout her medical treatments. She didn't want her family, relatives, or friends to worry about her. Jeanie was supportive of her children and husband whole-heartedly. She loved life and was spontaneous for adventure. Jeanie approached each day with energy and confidence, enriching the lives of those around her. Jeanie Beth leaves a beautiful legacy of great love towards her family, friends, and everyone she came in contact with.
Jeanie Beth was so loved. We all know Jeanie Beth will be in Heaven, where her home is. Soon we will meet her there. We await Jesus' second coming with great anticipation. What a glorious day that will be!
