James Su was born on March 10, 1934 in Taiwan to a family of ten siblings. He was educated in Taiwan by the Taiwanese educational system for most of his life, but partly by the Japanese educational system when Taiwan was under Japanese occupation. He became a Christian when he was around 16 years of age.
His ministry career for the Seventh-day Adventist church started in 1954 working as church pastor for the Taiwan Mission. From 1958 to 1962, he attended the Japan Mission College and earned his bachelor degree in theology. Soon after his studies, he went back to work for the Taiwan Missions and the Hong Kong Macao Mission. In 1967, he married Sephora Chan, a native of Hong Kong, at the age of 33. During his first years in Hong Kong, he had two sons, Fidel in 1968 and Stephen in 1969. From 1969 to 1973, while working for Taiwan Voice of Prophesy, he had his daughter, Anna in 1970. In 1973, he was sent back to Hong Kong to act as the head pastor of the Bible Auditorium in Kowloon, Hong Kong.
In 1979, his ministry career with the Seventh-day Adventist ended when he moved his family to Loma Linda, California. In order to support his family in a new country, he worked various odd jobs, studied computers, and eventually found his life work in acupressure helping people with physical pain and speaking the truth of God to whoever was willing to listen, including fellow believers of Christ and many of his beloved patients that came through his pain clinic. He continued with his acupressure work until he was no longer able to physically in 2017 at the age of 83, but he never ceased to talk to others about the word of God.
James Su loved his family and supported his children wholeheartedly. He also loved his granddaughter, Mikayla, who was born in 2009 to his second son, Stephen. Not only did he love his family, he loved his friends, fellow believers of Christ, and many others he came in contact with. He showed that love wherever he went.
