He was born June 23, 1935, in Graettinger, Iowa, to Walter and Mildred Myers. Wayne spent his childhood in Rodgers, N.D., on the family farm. He graduated from Rodgers High School in 1953. Wayne spent his adult life serving his country. After high school, Wayne enlisted in the United States Air Force as a jet engine mechanic. He proudly served for 22 years, and his assignments included France, Guam and Vietnam. He retired from the Air Force at Travis AFB, Calif., and went into civil service, maintaining submarines at Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Vallejo, Calif. After he retired from civil service, he went back to support the Air Force as a contractor for Raytheon.
His family meant the world to him. Wayne married Gladys Gehlhoff, the love of his life, in 1953, and they had five children. They were married for 50 years before her passing in 2004. He was unendingly proud of his children, and always tried his best to support them. Anyone that knew Wayne knew he was the most loving husband and father you could ask for. He enjoyed his bowling league days, golf and the New York Yankees. He also enjoyed travelling frequently to Kauai and Oahu, Hawaii.
He is survived by his children, Debbie (Bill) Clarke, Wayne Jr. (Cora) Myers, Sandy (Bill) Mackie, Susan Link and Patty (Rick) Kruzel; brother, Jack; sister, Karen; 11grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
