Walter Louis Emanuel Schumm, 89, born January 28, 1923 in Colorado Springs, passed away quietly in Snellville, GA. on December 8, 2012, attended Palmer High School, and served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1945 with 168th Infantry. Walt was awarded numerous decorations including the Purple Heart after being wounded in combat and honorably discharged. Walt married his life's love, Wilma Colpitts on June 30,1946. Always passionate with song, he enjoyed choiring at Redeemer and Holy Cross Lutheran churches and barbershop quartets. Walt retired in 1984 concluding 40 years with the U.S. Postal Service.
Walt's passing was preceded by wife Wilma and brothers Fred, Marty and David Schumm.
Walt is survived by his four children, Carol Duggan in Manchester, CT., Ron Schumm in Colorado Springs, Jim Schumm in Roxborough Park, CO., and Jeanette de Chadenedes in Snellville, GA., seven grand-children and six great grand-children.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Precup Personal Care Home, 4625 Matthews Park Drive, Snellville, GA 30039, to whom the family expresses their deepest gratitude.
Memorial service 3 P.M. Friday, December 14th at Holy Cross Luther Church, 4125 Constitution Ave, Colorado Springs. A viewing precedes the service at 2 P.M. Internment follows at Memorial Gardens, 3825 Airport Rd in Colorado Springs.
