I am really sorry to hear about Terry.  I had wanted to call and Gwen said you were not up to calls at that time and I understand that.  When Gwen told me about it, the first thought I had of Terry was from him riding on the shetland pony at the house.  I don't think I'll ever forget that.  He was so happy which he always was.  With his rope and all, he was a happy guy and very much loved.
Terry was really blessed to have a mother and father and family that loved him and took real good care of him.  You all did real good and I'm so proud to have had him in my family.  We all loved him very much and I know God is taking care of him, so is mom and the rest of our family that are there with him.

I was so saddened to hear of Terry's passing.  We always had so much fun playing with Terry!  He was always so happy!!!

Dear Aunt Dora Mae and Uncle Wayne
I really enjoyed looking at the pictures of Terry and the family. It reminded me of how much he was always smiling. I often wondered what was going on in his mind. I am sure he had a lot of uncle Wayne's sense of humor behind that smirk or smile of his. We will always remember Terry carrying his rope looking to wrap it around something or someone. Being a month apart in age, had it not been for the CP I'm sure we would have had a lot of fun together and would have managed to get into lots of mischief during family gatherings. Aunt Dora Mae was always having him sit. Often times he looked like a race horse waiting to get out of the gate to run. I can see him now running around heaven yelling yee haw or maybe just hallelujah. Stopping from time to time to tell someone one of the jokes he had heard throughout his life, but was never able to share with anyone. More importantly, I am sure after tanking God for our wonderful Savior, Terry made a point to thank God for sending him to such a loving and caring family. I look forward to seeing Terry in heaven and finally really getting to talk to him, sharing some conversation. Who knows maybe sharing in a little mischief as we praise the Lord together. Dear Uncle Wayne, Aunt Dora Mae, Linda, Kathy, and family,

Upon hearing about Terry's passing I was shocked and deeply saddened.  It is so hard to be separated from our loved ones.  I know it will be difficult to go on, day by day, without him, especially for Aunt Dora Mae.  I wanted to share something that I thought might bring you a little bit of peace and comfort.

This summer we spend a good bit of time with Terry, Uncle Wayne, and Aunt Dora Mae when they came to visit Granddad in Newcastle. My children loved playing with balloons and balls with Terry.  They each had many turns scratching Terry's back (which they enjoyed!) They accepted Terry and loved being around him.  That is what made it difficult to tell them of his passing.  Little did I know how much stronger (and smarter) my children are than I thought.

After I struggled through telling them of his passing (with much crying on my behalf),  they looked at me with confusion, not grief and anguish as I thought.  Jessica asked, "Was Terry a Christian, Mom?"  While crying, I manage to assure her that Terry was saved.  It was then that Josiah looked at me in astonishment and said,"Mama.  We should be happy for Terry.  He is in Heaven now with a Perfect Body."  With no response from me except sobbing, Jessica suddenly exclaimed, "Mama, Terry can talk NOW."

I rejoice that Terry is in a better place and in a perfect body.  But my heart aches for you, his family, who are temporarily separated from him.  I will continue to pray that God will give you comfort and peace during the lonesome, quiet days ahead.  I love you all and wish I could be with you.

Dear Wayne Dora Mae and Family, I was sad to see the home going of Terry.  I can only imagine how it must be for each of you. I can offer words from the Lord Himself from 1 Thessalonians chapter 4:

Linda called with the news it really broke my heart, felt like I lost a brother the times we spent together as kids, I will treasure forever. I was always so protective of him to make sure he didn't get hurt when we were playing. I'll never forget the time we were playing ball out front of your house and it got away. I worked at Sears Southgate (where Dora worked for many years) before becoming Terry's instructor at MRC Workshop (formerly on the corner of Weber and Fontanero) in the 1970's. I cherish many fond memories of Terry. Terry was a kind and gentle soul who loved to run his fingers through my colleague Susan's and my hair whenever we approached him. 

Terry loved roller skating whenever Susan and I took our group to Bosanova (formerly off of Fillmore). Terry was a fantastic roller skater. Though Terry's walking gait revealed that he had cerebral palsy, one would never detect Terry's disability if they met Terry for the first time while he was skating. Terry was incredibly graceful and confident while skating. Terry skated from the time we arrived at the rink until Susan and I informed Terry that it was time to board the yellow MRC School Bus to return to the sheltered workshop. 

I was thrilled to sit with Terry and Dora at a local agency (that serves people with disabilities) picnic in 2010. I hadn't seen Terry or Dora since the 1970's, and they looked exactly the same! 

Susan and I enjoyed our comfortable small group, which included young adults Annie, Charlie, Chuck, Donna, Kerry, Peter, Ralph and Terry. 35 years later, I continue to work in the disabilities field. 

My life was blessed to cross paths and spend time with Terry. I will see Terry again, when it is my time to go to heaven.

Our hearts go out to you during this time of sorrow. We know that your faith in God will bring you comfort during this most difficult time.Know that our thoughts and prayers are with you!

To my very dear friends down through the years, I want to express how deeply it has touched me to hear of Terry's going home to be with the Lord.  He was just 11 months old when I first met him and he had such a loving personality.  I can remember many times that he would cuddle up and love me. Aunt Dora Mae, Uncle Wayne, Linda and Kathy, Please know  how sad I am to hear of Terry's sudden passing.  I have many memories of Terry when I was young, especially the weekly visits with Aunt Dora Mae and Terry and the treat of Dunkin Donuts that you always brought.  Terry's love of his ropes and anyone with long hair....   I just want to express that as a young child I learned from being around Terry that every person no matter their lot in life has value, feelings and lessons to teach us all.
