Susan Jean Abbott, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2019, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born January 3, 1960, the second of three daughters to Robert and Wanda Wencl.
A Colorado Springs native, Sue attended Edison Elementary, Mann Jr. High and Palmer High School and graduated from University of Northern Colorado with a degree in education.
Sue spent many years doing what she loved, teaching Kindergarten and First Grade students. She loved helping children learn at an early age and many of those students went on to become life-long friends with their “favorite teacher”.
Family and friends were extremely important to Sue. She was loved by everybody and valued many close friendships going back to elementary school. She was always available to lend support with her sweet smile, thoughtful words or lighten a person’s spirits with her wonderful laugh. Sue cherished her time with her three sons and her grandchildren. Sue loved to travel with her husband enjoying adventures in Hawaii and Europe but she especially enjoyed spending time in their condo in Breckenridge.
She is survived by her loving parents Robert and Wanda Wencl, the love of her life and devoted husband Keith Abbott; loving sons Jeremy (Kim) Dean, Tyler (Austen) Dean, and Austin Dean; precious grandchildren Madilynn, Jeremiah, Natalie, Dominic; and sisters Janet (Brian) Lee and Jean (Joe) Cuchiaro.
A Memorial Mass is scheduled for 11am on Friday, January 25, 2019 at St. Peters Catholic Church in Monument, followed by a reception to celebrate her life with friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, Sue’s wished for contributions to be made to the Colorado Ovarian Cancer Alliance.
