Sophie Mary Wisniewski Wagner passed away on May 3, 2023 in Monument, CO. She was born in Chicago, IL on June 10, 1925, to Stanley Wisniewski and Mary (Graniczny) Wisniewski, both of whom preceded her in death along with her sister Irene Wisniewski and her beloved husband of 65 years, Edward Wagner, and a step-grandson, Paul Fischer.
She is survived by a sister, Evelyn Wagner; a son, Richard Wagner (Meg), and his step-daughter, Stephanie Kelley (Kevin) with 6 step-grandchildren Eli, Caleb, Josh, Grace, Sam, and Faith Newcomb; a daughter Cheryl DiPaolo (Nicholas); 3 grandchildren, Matthew DiPaolo (Traci Brown); Michael DiPaolo (Janine); Nicole DiPaolo; and 2 great-grandchildren, Augustus and Alexandra DiPaolo.
She attended St. Mary Magdalene Elementary School and graduated from Bowen High School in Chicago. After graduation she worked at the Federal Reserve Bank in Chicago as a proof machine operator. Three years later she married Edward Wagner on March 2, 1946. They lived in Chicago and then Midwest City, OK (where ED was stationed at Tinker Air Force Base during the Korean War). They moved to Dolton, IL in 1959. Sophie was a devoted housewife and mother. She returned to the Federal Reserve Bank for a year and then became an office worker at Riverdale Plating and Heat Treating Company for 10 years. After Ed retired in 1988, they moved to Monument, CO to be near their children and grandchildren.
Sophie loved to cook and bake. She took a cake decorating class and loved doing ceramics. She enjoyed planning road trips for the family whether they were local weekend trips or 2 week excursions. Her home was always beautifully decorated for the holidays. Most of all she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and close friends. Sophie was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Monument, CO.
