She leaves behind: daughter Jennifer, husband Jeff Wood, grandsons Justin and Joshua; son, Jeffrey Fry and grandson Aydin. Brothers: Gene and Dan. Sisters: Carole, Ruth (husband Brian) and mom, Dolores. Also extended family, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends, her dog, Zoe.
Preceded in death by her father, Floyd T. Dunmire, Lt. Col., USAF Ret.
How to sum up a life? Small in stature with such a big heart. She made friends wherever she went. Having graduated and earning her teaching degree from Adams State College in Alamosa. Later her masters degree in education. She was employed by El Paso County Courthouse. Her many talents included: quilting, needlepoint, knitting, cross stitch (having published a book of patterns). If you were lucky, you became the recipient of one of her many pieces. Never one to sit still, she kept busy, reaching out to members of the C.O.P.S. community through newsletters and traveling with her family to conventions during National Police Week.
Sonja married the love-of-her life, Charlie. They started their life together in Wray Colorado where they welcomed daughter, Jennifer, and two years later, son Jeffrey. Charlie was transferred to Colorado Springs. Their time together was very short, as Trooper Fry died tragically.
We will honor Sonja's life at a graveside service on Friday, September 9th. 11am at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 Hancock Expressway, Colorado Springs, CO 80903. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Colorado Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors.
