On Sunday, February 12, at 1:00 a.m. Christ Jesus called our dear sister, Sister Frances Franzluebbers (Teresa Amelia) to her eternal home. She died peacefully at Mount Saint Francis Nursing Center where she had been a resident since 2015.
Sister Frances was born in rural Monterey (West Point) Nebraska on September 24, 1933, to George and Frances (Ortmeier) Franzluebbers. She was the 9th in a family of 11. She is survived by her sister Rose. Preceding her in death are her sisters Josephine, Carolyn, Catherine, Ann and Sister Georgiana of our community, who died September 1, 2022, and her brothers Herman, Bernard, John, and Ferdinand.
Sister Frances entered our community on August 12, 1950, professing perpetual vows on August 12, 1957. She received her BS in Education from the University of Albuquerque and her MS in Education from Creighton University. She taught primary grades for 43 years, in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska and New Mexico. Twenty-five of those years were at Saint Anthony School in the Zuni Pueblo, at Zuni, New Mexico. In 1996, Sister returned to Mount Saint Francis participating in various ministries.
When Sister Georgiana became a resident at the Nursing Center in 2017, their ministry of prayer and presence was a double blessing. Together they spent many hours in adoration, visiting residents, playing Bingo and singing. They were avid pinocle and sheepshead card players, and devoted fans of Cornhusker (Nebraska) football.
As we say good-bye to Sister Frances, she will be remembered as a cheerful holy woman, with a warm smile of welcome.
The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Monday, February 20th at 10:30 am in Saint Francis of Assisi Church followed by burial in the Mount Saint Francis Cemetery.
Memorials can be sent to: Sister Marietta Spenner, Provincial, Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration, at 7665 Assisi Heights, Colorado Springs, CO 80919.
