Shirley A. (Light) Hambleton “The Queen of Cheap” passed away on November 30, 2018 in her home she has owned since 1953. Shirley was born in 1932, in Calhoun County, Iowa to Harold and Margaret Light. She grew up in Iowa and graduated from Panora High in 1950.
Shirley married Daniel Hambleton in 1951 and they moved to Colorado. Shirley and Dan worked and raised their five children in Colorado Springs and Alaska. Upon retiring, they returned to Colorado Springs where Shirley became active in TOPS and began making antique reproduction dolls and entering sweepstakes. Shirley and Dan often visited family in Iowa and Alaska where they traveled in their motor home.
Shirley is preceded in passing by her husband of 65 years, her son, Linn Dee Hambleton; her parents, and her sister, Patricia.
Shirley is survived by her children: Jane Vasquez; Laura Risigner (Allen); Kathryn Reiman (Stanley); Benjamin (Melissa); her siblings, Gary Light and Janice; four sisters-in-law; 19 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews as well as many many close friends and neighbors.
A visitation will be held Thursday, December 6th from 4-6 p.m. and funeral services Friday, December 7th at 2:00 p.m. all at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home and Cemetery 3825 Airport Road.
