She was born February 4, 1930. She was the daughter of Pierce Hillan and Laura (Sabinski) Hillan in Gary, Indiana.
On February 19, 1947 she married Frank William Gorgei in Gary, Indiana. They were married for 59 years.
Together they welcomed two sons and one daughter.
Shirley was a devoted wife and mother. She loved her home and made it comfortable, warm, and inviting for all her family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and made the best stuffed cabbage, stuffed peppers, and chicken paprikash.
Shirley’s home was the central heart and gathering place all year round for family and friends for so many years and how we loved to gather on Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
She had a wonderful sense of humor. She was very affectionate, loving and kind and a gentle soul. She was never one to complain about her ailments and discomfort especially in her last years. She enjoyed shopping and knew where to find the best discounts. She loved a “good deal.”
Shirley loved her job as a housekeeper for Kaiser hospital. She retired after almost 20 years of employment.
She would tell us stories of her younger years and she especially loved to play the French horn throughout her school days.
We love you mom let us all be thankful for you are still with us in a new and special way. You have built a foundation of love that we will carry in our hearts for the rest of our lives. Thank you for all that you did for each and everyone of us. The memories we hold dear to our hearts will never fade. We know that you are spending Christmas with Jesus now and for eternity.
We love you, God Bless you and may you rest in God's everlasting peace.
Shirley is survived by sons Frank Gorgei (Susie), Garry Gorgei (Marie), and daughter Cheryl Bachinski (Frank), as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by both her parents and husband Frank William Gorgei.
