Dick was born in Memphis, Tennessee August 28th, 1930. He was the youngest of four brothers born to the late John Wilbur Dodge and Gertrude Bernard Dodge.Dick was preceded in death by his three brothers and his wife of sixty years, Betty Louise Dodge. Dick graduated from Hyde Park High School in Chicago, was married on January 6th, 1951 and was drafted into the Army in March of that year. He served his country in Korea and was awarded a Purple Heart after being wounded in battle on Heartbreak Ridge. In 1953, Dick and Betty moved out west to Colorado Springs. From 1958 through 1979, Dick worked for the Prudential Life Insurance Company. During this time he was a member of many civic organizations including election to City
Council and serving as Vice-Mayor of Colorado Springs. From 1980 until his death, he was employed in the railroad industry including the position of Vice-President of Sales and Marketing for Progress Rail Services. Throughout his lifetime, Dick was an avid sportsman. He loved the western way of life and was an active member of the Pikes Peak Range Riders for fifty-one
years.
He is survived by his three children Dick (Connie) Dodge Jr. of Colorado Springs, Kathleen (Phil) Collins of Danville, California, and Bryan (Margaret) Dodge of Lucas, Texas. Dick found great joy in his grandchildren Geoff, Rebecca, Nicole (Patrick) Macaluso, Johnathan (Jenny), and Zach as well as great-grandchildren Luke and Levi Macaluso.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 am Monday, August 19th 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church, 219 East Bijou
Street, Colorado Springs. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Young Life or The Navigators.
