Pong was born in Masan City, Korea on September 8, 1950 to parents Chon Ul Sang and Kim Sun Tu. He is the 6th child of 9 brothers and sisters. Pong moved to Colorado in the spring of 1976 and received an Associate of Science from Pikes Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering from Colorado Technical University in 1991. He retired from Hewlett Packard as a highly respected engineer after 30 years of service in 2014.
Pong was self-motivated and prided himself on his continual search for knowledge and furthering education. He enjoyed camping, fishing, golf and volleyball. He was very active in the Korean church, loved to socialize and greatly enjoyed the company of others. He was friendly, playful and loved to laugh and eat good food. He was loved and admired tremendously by his family and friends and will be deeply missed.
Pong is survived by daughters Mina (husband Nathan), Dona (husband Bud) and Tina, grandchildren Mason, Charlotte, Shiloh, Kayla, Israel, Mariella and Christian, 2 brothers Hyun Ok and Song Ok, 2 sisters Mi Cha and Eu Soon, several nieces and nephews including David (wife Janet), Midge (husband Warren), Mary, Jennie (husband Mike), Lena and great nieces and nephews including Alysia, Eddey, Christian, Elijah, Kayla, Colbey, CJ, Aubrey, Jadyn, Joyelle, Dylan and Milan.
He is preceded in death by father Chon Ul Sang, mother Kim Sun Tu, three sisters,1 brother and niece (Gina).
Visitation will be held Monday, August 16 at 10 AM at Memorial Gardens Cemetery on 3825 Airport Road in Colorado Springs 80910. Funeral/Memorial Services will be held the same day and location at 11 AM. Changhoon Kim will officiate. Flowers, donations and condolences may be offered at Memorial Gardens Cemetery which will be his final resting place.
